What we collect, and what we don't
Reading this site requires nothing from you. Everything below applies only if you sign in, subscribe, or send a tip.
If you only read
No account, no tracking cookies, no advertising network, no analytics profile. The one cookie the site sets for a reader who never signs in remembers whether you chose the light or dark theme, and it is stored in your browser rather than sent anywhere.
The web server keeps ordinary access logs, as every web server does. Those are used to keep the site running and to spot abuse, and nothing else.
If you sign in
We receive, from Google, Apple, or Facebook:
- A stable identifier for your account with them.
- Your name and profile picture, shown beside your comments.
- Your email address, where the provider gives us one.
We never receive your password, and we cannot post anything as you anywhere. Apple's Hide My Email works normally here - if you use it, the relay address is all we ever see.
A session cookie keeps you signed in. It is marked HttpOnly and SameSite so other sites cannot read it.
If you subscribe
We store your address, the frequency and sections you picked, your timezone (so the morning edition arrives in your morning), and when we last sent to you. We use it to send that newsletter and nothing else. We do not sell, rent, or share subscriber addresses.
Every email carries a one-click unsubscribe link that works without signing in. Unsubscribing stops delivery immediately.
If you comment
Your display name, your profile picture, your comment, and its timestamp are public. The IP address the comment came from is stored privately for abuse handling and is never shown.
If you send a tip
Tips, and any attachment, are visible only to editors. Attachments are stored outside the public web directory and cannot be reached by URL. We do not publish who sent a tip.
How long any of it is kept
- Comments stay as long as the story does.
- Subscriptions stay until you unsubscribe; unsubscribed rows are kept only so we can honour the request.
- Tips are kept while the story they concern is live, then archived.
- Rate-limit and audit records expire on their own within days.
Getting it deleted
Delete your account yourself from your account page: it removes your account, your tips, your votes, and your subscription, and strips your name and text from your comments. For anything the button does not cover, ask through the tip line or write to news@gadsdenreport.com.
How we contact you
Everything we send comes from noreply@gadsdenreport.com (newsletters and automatic notices) or news@gadsdenreport.com (a reply from a person). We will never email you from anywhere else, and we will never ask you for a password.
Third parties
Sign-in is handled by Google, Apple, and Facebook under their own privacy policies. Web fonts are served by Google Fonts. Story links take you to the publishers' own sites, which have their own policies and their own trackers.
